Heads up on La Duni (Dallas)

Donnie C | Jun 22, 2004 04:17 PM

Beginning this Thursday, the new La Duni outpost on Oaklawn Ave will open. I had the pleasure of attending a "training" evening there with some friends earlier this week, and I must say that it will be good. Very good. It's located in the old Empire Bakery spot very near Aurora and has valet parking, which in that spot is important. The menu is in the same vein as the orginal, with some new innovations like empanadas and more meat and salad choices. In particular, the caudril (hanger) steak was beautifully done and very tasty.
This site will fulfill the dream Taco and Dunia had with the original concept. It will be open all day from 6AM, with coffee and pastries, until late evening for post dinner dessert seekers. Brunch on the weekends.
The decor is modern and hip with lots of wood, chrome and angles. The bar is in the very front of the room and acts as a shield from the street for diners as well as adding buzz to the look from the outside.
Since it is on Park Cities' doorstep, expect it to be packed but then again that may make the party even more interesting.
