Hayes & Kebab, SF report w/ pics

We tried Hayes & Kebab for dinner Fri 4/11/08 & we liked it fine for the neighborhood: Hayes Valley.

You look at the menu that's on the Right side once you walk in, order & pay for the meal, put your number they give you on the table & wait for the food.

We got:

Appetizer combo plate-hummus, babaganoush, mast o sir, falafel, couscous salad, dolma & grilled veggies $10.95. I don't eat fried items so got the falafels taken off & subsituted w/ more dolmas which he said was ok. The hummus is average, babaganoush is smoky eggplant that I liked, mast o sir is yogurt w/ shredded cucumber, diced fresh dill & a hint of garlic..I liked it fine. Hubby said it's too sour. Dolmas were fine but only 4 pcs, I guess normally only 2? Grilled veggies-2 button mushrooms & 2 zucchini chunks. This was probably the best dish of the night. Comes w/ pita bread.

Soup of the day $4.50-It was lentil, which I usually like. I thought their version was too full of tomato sauce & not that tasty.

Alexander's Favorite $12.95-thin-sliced marinated lamb & beef gyro w/ bread cubes in fresh tomato sauce & yogurt. Liked the bread it came with. Meats were thin & dry w/ gristly.

Portions are large & prices fair. Credit cards taken. Separate men & women bathrooms available in the back.
