The location in Redwood City, which I've yet to try, is my bro's favorite of the Hawaiian fast food joints around here. I've been watching the progress of the one in Vallejo and it finally opened a few weeks ago.
The owner of the place started up in Redwood City and she's on site here watching the order taker/cashier and barking orders in Cantonese to the kitchen crew. I went all out ordering a spam musubi, $1.50, to start, the BBQ mixed plate lunch, $6.50, and my favorite flavor of Hawaiian Sun, passionfruit.
The spam musubi was really good with a thick slice of spam (straight out of the can) that had some nice grill marks on it, bundled with rice and nori. The BBQ plate included short ribs, chicken and teriyaki steak. The steak didn't do much for me, the chicken even less, but the cross-cut (Korean style) short ribs were a winner. The plate was completed with two scoops of rice and a scoop of macaroni salad with the distinctive softness and sweet taste of the islands.
