HAVANA VILLAGE good for brunch

we tried HV today(sunday) for a brunch. it's on christopher street at bleeker. i think this was the old POT BELLIED STOVE space?

i had a papaya batido and some mofongo con chiccarones. the shake had nice chunks of fruit and was wonderful as it should be. the mofongo is of course a heavy gut bomb, but an awfuly tasty one. it's imposssible to stop eating. nice garlic flavor and spicy gravy on the side. delicious. some iceberg lettuce, tomato and onion salad on the side.

spouse had fried plantains which were fine. however, she ordered the real winner of the day, the arepa con chorizo. chorizo was deep fried, nicely spiced and had the right snap. the arepa was a suprise to me, it had raisins and cinnamon --- no gooey queso at all. very interesting and soo good.

good coffee here too. cost was $18 w/o tip. service is great. they have a big $9.95 brunch selection list, but this is one of the few places where you can pick around the menu and get more or less than that.
