The Hat's Pastrami

TomSwift | May 4, 200406:04 PM

I stopped by the Hat at Garfield and Valley yesterday for a pastrami. The place was crowded, but mostly for take-away. The pastrami is in the style of Johnny's (which I knew)not deli-style. The sandwich was just o.k., nothing bad but it didn't live up to my memory of my last one there. The meat seemed flavorless and, surprisingly, a little dry in light of the steam drawer in which they hold it. They seemed to skimp on the mustard and pickles, too. My memory was of a moist, sappy sandwich with some good pickle crunch. This one was not it. I'll write it off to a bad day and give them another chance when I'm in the neighborhood.
