Devoted chowhound that I am, I love all things food, but sadly, have concluded that my waistline will not support such an addiction. I have pretty much perfected the art of cooking healthy, fun, interesting, tasty dishes in my home but despair when I go out, since so much of restaurant food relies on butter, oil, cheese, etc. Are there any other waistline watchers out there (or even Weight Watchers) who have found tasty but healthy (by that I mean lower in fat and calories) dishes at good restaurants? I want some options. For instance, I was happy to discover that the Brickskeller (granted, not known for its cuisine) offers steamed spiced shrimp as an appetizer. I can work with that! It's just that I despair of ordering plain grilled fish and refuse to order chicken dishes that I could produce better in my home. Same goes for the crud that many restaurants call a salad these days. Sushi is good, as is much of asian cuisine, but like I said, I am running out of ideas.
Don't flame me - I appreciate the good stuff and the fattening stuff as much as anyone else, but simply cannot eat it all the time without paying the price. Of course, exceptions can still be made from time to time! :)
