I hate Cook’s Illustrated: The soul-crushing wonkiness of the world’s worst cookbook

I get stacks of these for cheap from the thrift store but never get much from any one issue. Even though it's content from cover to cover. Maybe if I paid full price I'd get more from them?

Anyway, Miller's point is taken that they aim for what's most pleasant for the most people, which ends up being kind of dull in some cases. But with the techniques explained, that surely helps when one is trying to tweak it to one's own tastes, right? Maybe as simple as some of the recipes can be, they aren't written for someone wanted a quick recipe for dinner that night.
