Hasidic Eats?

PAL | Jul 19, 2005 02:10 AM

I bet that a lot of the old timey Jewish foods that we lament the loss of on these boards are still available in Hasidic areas.

The last time I walked down Lee Avenue in Williamsburg, though I wasn't very hungry, I noticed that the locals are quite the chowhounds. There were at least ten deli/takeout places in the neighborhood serving everything from Shawarma to knishes, roast chicken, kugels, etc.

Has anyone tried any of these places? Any favorites?

I was recently in Borough Park, and had the most wonderful black and white cookie at Shlomie's Bakery on 51st and New Utrecht. Next door at the fish market, they were making fresh gefilte fish.
