I spent 10 years on my life in Chicago, developing heart problems because of my addiction to Harold's Chicken Shack. Now that I've moved, I need my fix - just something comparable to Harold's fried chicken. I'm longing for my 1/2 white with salt-pepper and extra hot. I've been hunting for the past year and haven't found anything.
For those that have no clue what I'm talking about- Harold's was a south side Chicago phenomenon. Bullet proof-glass; gizzards, fried okra, ordering through a speaker, etc.
Does NYC have anything comparable (I could do without the bullet proof glass)? Truly great fried chicken? It's not quite like the buttermilk-southern fried chicken one finds in the Carolinas; much tastier than KFC/Popeye's/Pollo Comparo, etc. Some help would be great.
