In February, one of my family's Chinese New Year reunions was a banquet lunch at the new Harborview opened by former partners from R & G Lounge. The lunch menu was essentially Menu A, https://harborviewsf.com/wp-content/u... , with Peking duck instead of the Princess chicken and addition of the Chicken stuffed with sticky rice. This selection included signature dishes from R & G that I've enjoyed many times in the past. There were some misses by Harborview in their execution.

Best dishes --- the stuffed chicken and the Salt & pepper Dungeness crab were up to R & G standard. Maybe frying is the new kitchen’s strength. The Peking Duck, served in the Cantonese style on the bone and with steamed buns, was good, as was the Smoked black cod. The two starter dim sum, roe-topped siu mai made with kurobuta pork and shrimp and har gau, were both fine.

However, the Three treasures with black bean sauce suffered from oil-soaked eggplant, falling apart stuffed tofu pockets, peppers suffocated in too much thick batter, and glue-y gravy. Beef brisket with turnip was cut haphazardly, not quite tender enough to the bite, not skimmed of fat nor trimmed adequately.

Decidedly mixed food-wise, but not a bad start. I did wonder if ordering "dinner" dishes at lunch time might have relied on the dim sum team in the kitchen that is not as experienced in preparing them. The two steamed dumplings we did have were good enough that I want to return for yum cha.

Service for our two tables of ten was quite good and included a change of lunch plates. The servers kept ahead of the arriving dishes by transferring remains from a large platter to smaller plates making room on the table. They boxed up our leftovers. Some service staffers were sitting down to their meal by the time we left. I recognized Gene, who was a captain at R & G, and had a chance to say "hello" to Angel who had been the partner in the front of the house.

What I enjoyed the most was having more space and comfortable surroundings than R & G could ever serve, plus the view towards the bay. When the kitchen catches up to the quality of room, Harborview will be my Chinese dinner house of choice in the City.
