Hi y'all, just back late last night from Mardi Gras. (I'm from Louisiana.) You name it, we ate it. Muffalettas, catfish, crawfish po boy, "sweep the swamp" pizza with crab, crawfish and shrimp, soul food -- the "veggie plate" greens with pork, rice and gravy, red beans and buttered white toast. Are those really veggies?
So, it got me thinking? Cajun/creole food in Phx is pretty miserable. Baby Kay's...maybe good years ago, but not in the 10 years since I've been here. Justin's Ragin' Cajun is about the best, though not super authentic. It's closed, but I heard it's reopening? Can anyone confirm that?
I heard about a place in Mesa that makes King Cakes? Pier De Orleans? Anyone know about that?
Last weekend I cooked for about 50 people...gumbo, red beans and rice, black eyed peas, rice casserole, yum. Guess next year I'll have to invite everyone!
