Living in a time where Stone Cold Creameries are as ubiquitous as frozen yogurt places were 15 years ago, its getting difficult to find homemade ice cream anymore.
In orange county its even tougher. With the long ago closing of Farrels and Swensens I find myself forced to frequent 31 flavors. Im just "that" lazy ( I like my ice cream pre-made) and I hate trendy places that swirl flavors together. If youre like me I have an answer for you.
Hans Ice Cream in Costa Mesa near South Coast Plaza.
Just went there tonight. Had a great scoop of watermelon (seasonal) sherbert (notice it's not sorbet) and a scoop of mocha chip. They also make a yummy caramel turtle yogurt. Hans makes all of his ice cream on location and its dang diddly, dang diddly good. They also make sandwiches and other food, but its the ice cream that keeps me coming back. Theyre open till 10 pm except fri. and sat. when theyre open till 11 p.m. Theyre located on the block that is north west of south coast plaza near the toys r us and sports mart (get your kid some activity games to burn off those calories youre about to eat.
Peace out and enjoy,
