Hands down bests Meals in Italy

buccibabe | Jul 20, 2007 12:46 PM

Just got Back from Italy.

Florence: The Best Meal we had the entire time in Florence was at Trattoria Toto. There was a Wood burning oven for Pizza's. My brother can smell those wood burning ovens from a block away and we just wandered in for a pie....those ovens do make the best pizza's. Pizza was GREAT. We were so TAKEN with the place and the size of those steaks...we made a ressie and came back for dinner.....arriving via horse and Carriage ride.
The Tagliateli Al Toto was Fabulous (Fresh Pasta's) and the Grilled Bisteca Florentine was compared to none other for our entire trip. Why...They cooked it on that open fire. A huge slab of meat bigger than anyone should dream of consuming. Deliciously flavored from cooking on the open fire. Worth every penny! We also had the ribs, the pork chops and the homemade sausages. Every one ...delicious.

Another Great Rec from Chowhounds to go to Market and have Bollito at Nerbone. Delicous sandwich ...wandering the Market Wonderful experience. GOOD STUFF!

In Montepertuso above Positano lies a gem called La Tagliata. They have a free shuttle that will actually pick you up and drop you off again. We sat down all 17 of us. And without a menu...Food just started to arrive from Every direction....almost immediately. Everything served Family style The antipasto was divine Every veggie you can imagine, Meats, cheeses and breads , The pasta's, light, delicious and home made came out on platters again 6 diffrent varieties, and then after the pasta course huge platters of Grilled meat had everything on there you can imagine. Bistecca, Veal, chicken, sausage, Shish kebobs, pork chops. The meats came out with Salad and Potatos. Then came the Huge dessert platters one better than the next. Expresso & Lemon cello to wash it all down with. It was easy a 2 hour Feeding Frenzy that we are still talking about. Family owned and operated.... SAY Hi to Peppino....
They made us feel like we were at a Sunday Family dinner. We cannot wait to go back.

Rome: Our Favorite Meal was at Antico Forno which I tried from a Chowhound Recommendation....In Travestere...totally fab. Every Pasta on the table was SPOT ON. Loved everything...wished we could go back, and we did try, but the place is closed on tues.

Rome: Vecchia Roma another Rec from these boards. Very EXPENSIVE compared to other restaurants we went to. In the Jewish Ghetto....HOWEVER, it was WORTH every penny. The food was Fabulous. I had a Linguini & clams with Broccoli Rappini...sounds like an odd combo....but it was Ohhh so Delicious.

Santa Margherita: Il Faro was our Favorite. Soon as you sit they bring you Foccocia breads and plates of mixed veggies that are to die for. The Grilled Octopus and the Linguini & Clams were FABULOUS> We also tried the Pesto, and Frutti di Mare...Very Good Ristorante...

Cinque Terre...Lunch in Manrola at Aristide ....My mouth waters when I think about that lunch. Antipasto of Mixed Salami's, Mozzarella Caprese, the Bread & Olive oil were a meal by itself. The house wine only 8e -Great! I ordered Arabbiata sauce that is a bit spicey..but the Fresh tomatos they used were sooo sweet! Pesto Lasagna tastes Just as good as it smells....The waiter passed by with one for another table and we had to Order one for just smelled so good. Frutti di Mare Insalata and Broiled fish, Lasagna ragu, and pasta Scampi. Not to mention desert & expresso....the entire meal 86e for 4

Lucca..Buca di SantAntonio Excellent Restaurant. Tortellini Luccese divine, Ravioli Zuchini was Fabulous too. My Grilled Veal Chop was the best I had in 23 days in Italy.
I wish I could tell you more about what the others ate at my table that nite. But, I was just to thrilled with my own Plate.

Second fav in Lucca.....Trattoria Gigi for Lunch. WE were only in Lucca for 2 days. I wish that I would have gone back to this was much better than the place we tried the next day. Every SINGLE pasta we ordered was Delicious!

Lucca: Sabatini Gelateria.....was only second to the death by chocolate at Tre Scallini in Rome.

Sorrento: in Piano Di Sorrento.Called Zio Sams...a 7 minute cab ride up and WORTH it. The view is amazing and the FOOD is Fabulous. Because it is way out of town only the locals eat here. I have family in Sorrento ...they are the ones who recommended the place. My Risotto with Sausage & Porcini Mushrooms was divine. So many delicious pasts on the menu It was Hard to Choose.

Sorrento in town on Piazza Tasso is O' Canonico. We have gone there so many times we are part of the family now. EXCELLENT food. Worth every penny. Whatever the Special is....GET it! One of those places where you just have to taste everyone's dish!

Sorrento: Da Franco's for Pizza. Best in town!

In 23 days we ate at alot more places than this..but these are the Stand out Winners. I did so much research on this board that I knew I must to give back with pleasure the details! :)
However, doing so....has made me hungry! ;)

Ok.....any questions?
