My Sunbeam hand mixer is 47 years old and still going strong. I don't use it very much and definitely not for mixing heavy cookie dough, but there are jobs for which I consider my hand-held essential. We now own a second house and I need to set up another kitchen.
Shopping for a new mixer, I've found a common complaint that lowest speed on the Kitchen Aid 9-speed, the Cuisinart 7-speed, and the Hamilton Beach Soft-scraper are all too fast, even on the lowest speed setting.
This isn't an expensive enough item for me to be terribly concerned about price, but I'm beginning to think that I want to buy the cheapest model on the market as a way of dumbing down the power. I'm mostly going to be using the mixer to whip cream. Probably, my most-demanding task will be to cream butter and sugar and, then, to add flour, for the base of a bar cookie or a cake.
Can someone recommend a hand mixer with a true range of speed?
