We just returned from the House of Meat Restaurant (no poetry in the name). Former devotees of Aladdin's Palace (on intersection of 33 and I-295), we were devastated when it closed. Imagine our elation at the opening of HMR (House of Meat Restaurant). If you thought AP had ambiance (it didn't) this has less, but that could change. The food is excellent; great Zatar Pie (am I the only one who knows what this is?), terrific shish kebab, babaganoush, chicken shaouk. The rice is pilaf, with tasty raisins and almond slices (mind the cloves!). The falafel was crunchy, hot and inviting; begging for tahini, which was in generous supply. The menu boasts of Halal (all meat is Halal) Chinese food, which we didn't try. I imagine they won't feature double-cooked pork. No matter; we left happy and satisfied for under $30. We'll try the Chinese next time. They also have a goat burger (cheese is extra), meat pie, buffalo wings, grilled chicken salad and desserts. The owner said that he will be bringing in home-baked bread; if you remember Aladdin's bread, you'll be lining up on Quaker Bridge Road. No chopsticks provided.
