Had a fabulous "Sopa de Peixe", a hearty Portuguese-style fish soup at O Farol, one of the Portuguese eateries along Ditmar-Koel-Straße, Hamburg's Portuguese Quarter or Portugiesenviertel. I just wished that the soup was served hotter - mine was barely lukewarm, but the flavors were sharp, tasty, absolutely marvellous.
Next, "Gambas fritas com alho" - large prawns cooked in garlic-olive oil, scented with lemon & coriander. The prawns were fairly fresh, the bubbling flavored oil was tasty and perfect for dipping in the sliced pão.
My main course was another generic-sounding "Carne de porco a Portuguesa" or Portuguese-style pork. It's another simple, rustic dish of slices pork, cooked with potatoes & black olives in olive oil, tomatoes & onions. The garlic content here was toned down quite a bit, perhaps to cater to local German tastes. The pork was tasty but dry-ish. The potatoes were perfect,
Tall glasses of Alsterwasser was a perfect accompaniment to my meal, though some guests opted for the 'Vinho Verde'.
