Hamantaschen - 'tis the season

George R | Feb 17, 2004 05:15 PM

Although Purim doesn't take place until March this year, you can now get Hamantaschen - the triangular pastry with poppy seed or fruit filling - which is associated with it.

This weekend Kaufman's Bagels & Deli in Skokie had them available. I bought a dozen with poppy seed filling (they freeze well).

I've tried other places on the North Shore, but Kaufmans is my favorite -- brings back memories of my grandmother's baking. Also, a visit to Kaufman's is an excuse to pick up bagels, corned beef, smoked chubs, etc.

If anyone has other recommendations for Hamantaschen, I'd love to hear them.
