I just had to pen an ode to Gustav Mahler, a Las Vegas treasure. The local public radio station had an interview with him last night and he is charming as well as a wonderful chef!
Went to a Mondavi Wine dinner at OXO last week that was stunning, especially when the price was only $65! Judging from our dinner, this is a wonderful steakhouse. Right across the hall is Spiedini, a killer Italian restaurant. I've eaten twice there and loved the seafood pasta dishes. These are both beautifully designed, too. They are adjacent to the JW Marriott (formerly the Regent). We spent the night at the hotel because we didn't want to drive after a wine dinner. It is a totally gorgeous property with wonderful bathrooms and our $139 "locals special" rate included a full breakfast at Ceres, their "coffee shop" that is surrounded by water features. Splendid!
Also frequent the wine dinners at Sazio's in the Orleans -- such a deal at $35! This is a top-notch Italian restaurant that is very reasonably priced.
Finally, Bull Shrimp at Green Valley Ranch is also wonderful. There is a shrimp dish with 24 spices that is to die for. I have also had some of the best salmon ever there for lunch, with a kind of Asian sweet sour glaze. I'm figuring the steaks and red meat there must be great, too.
Mahler helped Steve Wynn mold LV into a restaurant town in the old days. His restaurants feature some wonderful dishes in beautiful settings at a great value. Good solid food.
And, no, I'm not getting paid for this LOL...just wanted to share.
