My guide to Vietnamese Banh (small cakes)

Alice Patis | May 21, 2005 03:38 AM

Sometime ago I made a guide of sorts to Vietnamese banh, which translates to 'cake' but here I'm using it as a loose term for small cakes, often steamed, & other small eats and treats. I brought it to a Chowdown to give to others and promised to make it available but never got the energy to put it on a website until now. I've just updated it as well. The link is below.

For each banh, I have the Vietnamese name and literal translation if I know it, a rough pronunciation if needed, a description, and a picture.

This is very much a draft in progress and it's to the best of my knowledge, but there may be mistakes. There are some banh that are clearly from other cuisines, but I included them in case you ever run into their Vietnamese name. Anyway I hope you enjoy it or find it useful. I may not leave it up forever, so feel free to download it if you wish. Also I have the MSWord version so if you prefer that, send me an email.
