Should we have "guest knives" available in our kitchen?

Many of us have a personal collection of well chosen kitchen knives that we keep sharp and wash by hand. Friends that come to help in the kitchen may damage and disfigure our most treasured knives, or may not choose the right knife for the task and put themselves at risk. One solution would be to have "guest knives" out and available--perhaps displayed on a magnetic strip. I have three throwaway paring knives, a Sir Lawrence butcher knife, and two slicers to make available--worth less than $20.
