When a guest insists upon bringing the main dish to a dinner party

dkrnet | Dec 8, 201701:30 PM

My wife and I are hosting a holiday dinner party. For the first time in several years my brother, whom we don't really get along with very well, and his family will attend. Since being invited my brother has told us that he would like to bring the main dish. We have told him several times that we will be serving the main dish. We've tried to gently suggest that he bring his favorite side dish. Today he informed me that he is definitely bringing his main dish even though we will serve the exact same main dish ourselves.

How should we handle this situation? It seems extremely rude for my brother to insist upon bringing the exact same main dish that my wife and I will serve.
