GTA food stop on Canada Day weekend?

beastca | May 26, 201905:05 AM     13

Our family of four (all adventurous foodie adults) will be driving from upstate NY to Northeastern Ontario on the Saturday of the holiday weekend. We'd love to stop for a meal, probably lunch as we have to get to our destination (about 5 hours north of Toronto) by the end of the day. Ideally, something not too far off the QEW, the ETR or the 400. In the past, we've enjoyed some of the Chinese restaurants in the northern burbs. Once we get to Barrie or points north of there (along Hwy 69 around Georgian Bay to Sudbury), the food options have always seemed limited, but if that's no longer the case, we'd love to know. Also, will restaurants be open on that day? Thank you, fellow Chowhounders.
