Need a group venue with cheap eats

Looking for a restaurant/diner/place to hold a lecture-like event for 30-50 people (part of a non-profit group)in the 310/323/213 area. Terribly informal.... not for a banquet or anything.

Our main interest is simply sourcing a room, but since the event will probably be around 6-9 p.m., attracting a post-work crowd, we need to have a food option. We've had events at restaurants such as McCormick and Schmick's (downtwn) which offers a banquet room, but you have to charge appx. $25-30 per person to cover food costs. That prices out a lot of folks who might want to come... likewise, not everyone wants to eat.

So... an ideal place would be a take-out type situation with a big back room that we could reserve for the group. Eaters could grab a sandwhich, bev or whatever and then head to the room for the lecture.

Or, we might go with a banquet room in a regular restaurant if they were willing to set up a really minimal buffet, where we could charge a nominal fee that even non-eaters might not mind paying. Think bar/happy hour type of snacks on steam trays - or dim sum, mexican, etc. No need for servers, linen, etc.

I was thinking of those mega Chinese places in Chinatown, but thought I'd post this before exploring.
Maybe you know of a haunt that has a decent-sized "extra" room that might want to make some extra weeknight income?
