Even more Grotto and others

Made plans to hit the $30 prixe fixe at Grotto again before I knew they extended it thru Aug. Wasn't quite the wow factor of 2 weeks ago but still very good. Started with two pear martinis at No. 9 Park which were wonderful. Bar was jumping so we sat at a table in the window which would normally be fine but I had to keep my sunglasses on with the sun shining in. Nice (cute) server. Grotto had only about 4 tables filled when we got there at 7:30, they told us to pick where we wanted to sit. Had a bellini and prosecco with our bread and olive oil while planning our strategy. I had been steered toward the calamari last time when I wanted the prosciutto wrapped/gorgonzola stuffed figs so that was a must and we also got the mozzarella/tomato salad. Figs were amazing, salad very good. Figured we should try the much talked about gnocchi w/ short ribs and got the haddock w/ orchiete (sp) pasta, broccoli rabe and scampi sauce. The gnocchi are done perfectly and it's a good dish but maybe it was too summery out for us to really enjoy it the way everyone else does. Seems better suited to Nov. and we had a good amount leftover. Haddock was excellent. Panna cotta was great but they didn't pour on the fresh strawberries the way they did 2 weeks ago. Banana bread pudding w/ caramel ice cream is so good but again, probably better for winter dining. Service was great, two pleasant girls were taking care of the table. No slip ups or anything as had been reported. A party of 8 and a couple late parties of 2 made it more crowded before we left at 9. Great deal.

Went back to Wonderspice in JP for the first time in ages Tues. nite and had a couple tasty dishes, seafood medley in a curry sauce w/ rice and tofu and veggies in a supposedly spicy "Korean" sauce w/ noodles. I mistakely picked the wrong noodles and got those thin crispy ones which I wasn't into it. Many many choices, need to stop by more often. Dishes are all about $8-13, patio seating if you want, good place to have in the neighborhood.

Tried that new Beard Papa cream puff place in Fanueil Hall. Of course, I only had 2 bites since I was gonna be going to Grotto and saved the rest for this morning, so it lost some of its luster overnight. But those are tasty little treats, and they were having an opening special of $1.25 each. There was chocolate advertised in the Globe and on their sign but maybe the special they were doing didn't include choc., good filling tho, okay pastry.
