New Grocery Outlet open in Alameda

Ruth Lafler | Sep 21, 201812:24 PM

A new Grocery Outlet has opened in the former Safeway (most recently a Western Marine) on Buena Vista just east of Webster Street. It feels quite a bit smaller than the Oakland location but much bigger than the San Leandro location. Hours will be 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. every day.

I suspect it will take a while for them figure out what their customer base wants. Meanwhile, it's a good place to troll for wine while it's still below the radar for the guys who come in and snap up the good stuff. The wine selection was heavy on West Coast reds and budget sparklers (Moscato and Prosecco), so that might be a clue to the interests of the wine buyer. It will be nice to have the option of something closer to home for basics, although I'll probably still hit the Oakland store periodically looking for treasures in their larger selection.
