Gritty blue

Hi 'hounds, help me out if you know the answer:

Over Christmas, I picked up a Roquefort "Society Bee" blue. It was gritty and tasted bad to me. Not like other Roquefort I've had. Is it supposed to be gritty or did I get a bad piece?
