Grilled Oyserts at Acme

While I'm not sure if Acme on Iberville has joined the chorus, the Acme at West End has started serving the seemingly ubiquitous grilled/chargrilled oysters of Drago's fame. They note, though, that they do not cook them as long as Dragos, and a dozen last weekend confirmed that fact. It appears that Acme uses only larger oysters and grills them so that they are not cooked all the way though, as I have had at Drago's. Nonetheless, each one still had plenty of smoky flavor, a nice complement of garlic and other spices, and a texture that is superior in my mind.

This dish is an excellent addition to what I consider a very good, informal restaurant. The outdoor (but covered) seating in the back has a wonderful view of the marina, and their fried oysters (as well as raw oysters) are, in my experience, always excellent. My only complaint is the fried shrimp. There is little excuse for their processed, obviously frozen supply.
