I'm visiting the Delta from Los Angeles. I'd heard that there was good lunch to be had at Hoover's Grocery in the Baptist Town part of Greenwood, so I went there. The grocery has burned down but moved into the laundry down the street. I showed up around noon and asked about lunch. Mr. Hoover, behind the counter, said that they didn't really do hot lunches anymore but he had some ribs if I was interested. I was interested.
They were remarkable. A whole new species of ribs. Moist and juicy and rich red like great country ham on the inside, yet somehow also perfectly charred and crispy on the outside- and fall off the bone tender. They'd been rubbed and the rub was great. There was sauce on the side but it was unnecessary.
It came to $5 for five ribs. Go there. You won't be sorry.
