Anyone know where to get green walnuts right now in the Bay Area? I'm willing to travel a little in hopes of putting up some Nocino this summer. I usually get them from the farm stand in either Marin or at the Alemany market, however this year they brought them kind of late, so they look a little too mature. More importantly, the owner of the farm has become so dismissive and surly I can't bring myself to give him my money.
I may reconsider if I can't find them elsewhere, and the clock is certainly ticking. I was a little curious why they were marketing them as "fresh" walnuts as oppposed to "green", and without the obligatory recipe they usually offer to customers. Yet, when I asked if they would still be suitable for Nocino, I got barely a mumble in response and it was clear he had no interest in conversing with me.
I understand the farmers have to put up with dim-witted, blow hards here in the city ALL the time, but I was polite and totally unassuming and still got slammed!
Anyone with any information re; this oddity, thanks very much in advance!
