Tried it out this Wednesday and was surprised by the amount of business this 1 month old place was already generating. SE asian menu was diverse, though mostly focused on Malaysian and Thai dishes.
Friend and I shared the roti canai for an appetizer; for mains we shared thai green beans with tofu, and pad thai. I've certainly have had better roti canai, as it was thicker, smaller, and less "papery" than it should have been and it's accompanying sauce, while tasty, was covered with a thick grease slick that kinda turned me off.
We requested the green bean dish with tofu and I was completely taken aback that the tofu was not cubed or cut into chucks; instead it was literally an 8 oz. block of deep fried silken tofu covered with green beans and sauce. Though i found the green beans a little little seedy (old?) the flavors of the dish were excellent and I found myself unable to stop eating it. Accompanying coconut rice had a good taste, but I was surprised that it was a really short grained rice, as opposed to the long grain thai rices that I'm used to.
Pad thai was, well, pad thai, but alas! not all pad thai is good pad thai and this one was certainly good pad thai. overall, I'm of the belief that Papaya's totally kicks Wondee's of Hackensack's greasy pad thai butt.
Service was great with constant tea refills and polite demenour and the price was right...22 dollars for 2 entrees and a shared roti...I look forward to checking the place out again after they've had some time to settle in.
