Went to dinner at the Green Monkey in Portsmouth, NH with friends on Saturday night and got quite a surprise. We tend to go to 43 degrees N but decided to try something new- and it was worth it!
Although a bit loud b/c of hardwood floors and almost bare walls-the ambiance was great. There's an interesting and affordable wine list as well as signature martinis (although the list is on a blackboard on the far wall so you can barely read your choices).
I chose not to have a starter but guests at our table ordered a nice caprise salad piled high with heirloom tomatoes as well as some fig/cheese delish concoction that got rave reviews. My entree was a rack of lamb rubbed with chipotle and roasted carrots, potato and fiddleheads, which were sublime. Other entrees included duck with a gorgeous blackberry glaze and wasabe mashed potato (tried it- so good), steak, macadamia crusted mahi mahi and the tuna...Everything looked, smelled and tasted delicious.
Dessert was shared by all- grand marnier creme brulee. Also, delish.
There was a mix up with the bill but otherwise service was friendly and efficient...we were even greeted by the owner.
All in all a great choice...
