This low-key neighborhood joint has a good menu of healthy southwestern'ish dishes and reasonable prices. Lucky for us, it's also a short walk from home.
The interior is casual, with a dozen or so tables, a rack of chile powders and suchlike to take home, and a counter at which you order. Their take-out has a nice twist - they'll run your order out to your car when you pull up, a handy feature in an area with little street parking!
We had a small bowl of their signature green chile chicken stew ($3.95/cup), which was a light, but rather flavorful soup with a pleasant and pronounced green chile flavor. Although the broth is thin, a dollop of sour cream added substance, and it's flavorful anyhow. Chunks of slightly too-dry chicken, potatoes, tomatoes and corn gave it texture. All told, very tasty - just the thing for a chilly day (which this was not, but anyways...).
Sarah had a 1/4 rotisserie chicken ($6.95) and liked it very much - juicy and flavorful, although her side potatoes were undercooked. My Fulton Valley chicken burrito ($5.95) was tasty and comforting, and the side salsa had a good roasty flavor to it. It was not what I had ordered, however (I'd asked for the Niman Ranch beef burrito), but not a big enough deal for me to fuss about, as I like both meats fine. The blue corn tortilla chips were above average quality - thick and crunchy, with a nice saltiness to them.
Cheap hootch is another plus - their beers are $2.95 by the bottle, and they had several wines, some organic, both by the glass ($4.50 or $5.75) and the bottle ($12.95 or $17.95). The food isn't fancy, but then again food doesn't always have to be. We were pleased to find an inexpensive and healthy restaurant near us, and definitely plan on returning.
Best regards,
_Adam
