Greece's BBQ

David Boyk | Jul 23, 200207:42 PM

Since it was one of the few barbecues I hadn't tried yet, and some people here like it, today I checked out Greece's, on La Brea and 9th. It's a bland storefront in a strip-mall, with Matlock and Hawaii Five-O playing on the TV, but it smells good. I had the pork ribs, and though they weren't bad, they weren't very exciting, either. The meat was less tender than it could have been, and didn't have all that much flavor on its own, and had more fat than other places' spare ribs. The sauce was pretty good, but quite mild, and the beans and potato salad were undistinguished. It's a bit cheaper than The Pig, a little up the street, but the pig at The Pig is just awesome, both in its spare and baby back forms, and is accompanied there by stellar sides and desserts, so I don't think I'll be in a hurry to go back to Greece's. If I'm staying in West LA, I'll go to The Pig, and if I'm straying farther, I'll go to Phillip's.
