Great seafood selection in LA

Put in cahrge of a little bday shindig..thought that seafood would go good on a spring afternoon...grilled and fresh seafood with beer by the pool...after searching around..I found this spot..International Marine Products, 500 East 7th Street Los Angeles, CA 90014 Tel: (213) 680-0497..essentially 7th and Alameda..with a private parking lot...it really is a warehouse that happens to do some retail business..opens in the early wee hours and closes at 10 or 11 am...the people there speak japanese (wakarimasen) or spanish..man..there are live tanks for the oysters and other mollusks as well as fish on ice everywhere...after walking around for a little while inside, i just asked for help. The place seems to serve restaurant folk who know exactly what they want..thus employees wont bother ya much, but they can assist ya once you ask.

Got some crabs, about 5 dozen oysters, 4 pounds of gigantic shrimp -under 10 pieces per pound, some sashimi grade toro and a few whole salmon. Raw and grilled oysters, boiled the crabs with old bay, skewered the shrimp and basted them with a garlic-lemon mojo, made some ceviche, sashimi and grilled the salmon with fresh oregano and thyme. People there helped me with all the selections. Im sure there is credit for people in the business...but cash otherwise...I went on a scouting mission a few days before the party and scoped out the scene and made a list and then returned
the day of and assembled the package and went straight home and put it all on ice......even if ya end up not buying, its a great place to go check out the selection.
