We've been to Putney, Vermont (near Brattleboro) for a couple of weeks over the last few years and I was wondering if there are any truly wonderful eating experiences that we've overlooked. We're willing to travel an hour or so in any direction, including northern Mass and western NH.
Our best finds have been the diner in Saxtons River where the Mexican chef cooks his hometown cuisine only on Friday and Saturday nights, the annual Bean Dinner in Brownsville, VT (an hour or so north of Putney) which takes place every Saturday in July and has for the last sixty-something years (the pies which are baked by the women -- and men? -- of the town are alone worth the price of admission), and the somewhat upscale cafe/restaurant in Walpole, NH, run and owned by a famous chocolate maker whose name escapes me at the moment.
Anything else, chowhounds? Also, we'll be driving up to the Montreal area and can arrange stops along the way to eat, purchase, or ogle food. Thanks in advance.
