Kind of as a follow-up to a message I posted on another board, I would like to know which restaurant in San Francisco serves the best Crab Louie.
I would like to take a friend of mine out for some. He had Crab Louie on his first trip to San Francisco (without his parents! Ooooh!) when he was 17. But that was back in the early '70s and he thinks he probably had it at Aliotos. When I asked him, out of the blue, what food he most associates with San Francisco, his first response was Crab Louie. (Actually mine would be burritos, which is odd because that really should be associated with Southern Cal or Texas...but then, THAT'S what I had when I first arrived in San Francisco!)
Anyway, I saw that there was some talk on this board about places to buy fresh crab and I figured that since crabs were in season I would take my friend out to a restaurant that serves great, fresh, Crab Louie. And really, since that's probably ALL we're having, I don't imagine price would be an issue.
Any thoughts? Should we bring along Tony Bennett's Greatest Hits?
