I had dinner at Savoia on Smith Street last night, and one of the dishes were so good, it made me wonder if this place deserves more attention than it gets. It was a penne with sausage-green pepper ragu. You couldn't see any evidence of green peppers in the meaty sauce, but it had the most incredible deep green pepper flavor. They must have cooked down a ton of green peppers for a long time until they just dissolved into the sauce. Delicious.
The gnocchi with wild mushrooms was also very good, and not as overly rich and creamy as a lot of wild muchroom sauces I've had.
Alas, the pizza with pear and gorgonzola had a good flavor, but WAY too mozzarella in additon to the gorgonzola. I'd try it again and ask for less cheese.
Anyway, check out that penne.
