finally, we can get a good Miso Katsu in NY!
Miso Katsu is a famous regional food of Nagoya in Japan.It's basially a pork katsu with a special miso
sauce. the miso for this sauce must be a Aka-Miao which
is in dark brown color, and has sweet&tart taste.
the menu of Sapporo East says, Japanese style beef cutlet( you can choose pork or chicken ) with regular
ton-katsu sauce or SPECIAL HOME MADE SPECIAL MISO SAUCE, or something like that ( I don't remember exactly, sorry...).
pork is more traditional, but beef is a really good choich too ( I recommend beef at this restaurant. a beef katsu is popular in japan, but not in NY.not many japanese places make this in here ).
although traditionally the katsu(cutlet) is covered with the sauce - or some places simmer a katsu with the sauce -, Sapporo East serves this sauce one the side ( they think some people may not like it ).
so you should pour the sauce all over the katsu - this is pretty fun! - IMMEDIATELY.
the katsu comes with a good portion of shredded cabbage - traditional side of katsu - and salad, miso soup. it's $12. a good deal.
