I have read a number of posts on here about inconsistency issues with Bettola's pizza. While I have experienced that issue, I still find myself gravitating to Bettola more and more. The Pollo Pomodoro sandwich is a standard on the lunch rotation. Awesome bread, good chicken and a nice frito misto salad makes for a perfect lunch in my book.
The wife and I tried dinner there a couple of months ago and had a blast with the antipasta platter. Went back back Friday and had another wonderful experience. Portions are a little slim, but the selection and quality makes up for it. The condiments may be the best part. Artichoke puree is to die for. They are also featuring some really nice seasonal mostardo made from local peaches and figs. Highly recommend.
Maialona is my go to pizza. I true carnivore's delight. But we have a new challenger: the Bietola. House sausage, spinach, fontina, pecarino, marscapone and a big fat farm egg right in the middle. Let me tell you folks, this is what artisan pizza is all about. Incidentally, crust was spot on that night. Perfect amount of char and crispiness.
I just wish they offered a nice side salad option. Maybe a small misto at a reasonable price. Would have made the meal perfect.
I highly recommend an evening trip.
