OK, I know I am a broken record on this place, but it continues to impress. For dinner last night: a spicy woon sen (the clear noodles) salad with chicken; minced shrimp paste with the paste stuffed into something and fried; and sauteed eggplant with pork (there is a choice of meats/shrimp for this one).
Not on the regular menu but on a separate laminated page, the salad was very similar to what we've had in other Thai restaurants although typically it seems to have pork and/or shrimp. We liked this version, and it had some additional flavor that I couldn't identify.
The shrimp thing was quite subtle but very tasty. It was best when it first arrived and was hot. I could eat a couple of plates of them.
The eggplant, though, was the kicker. It wow'd us both on the first bite. Baby eggplants cut into large chunks; nice smoky flavor; a few shreds of sweet green and red pepper.
Right now, I'm of the opinion that Bangkok 54 is the best Thai restaurant in NoVa, with my comparisons including Thai Square, Duangrat's, Neisha Thai, Rabieng, Crystal Thai, and the ever-declining Sala Thai.
