I posted last summer about a wonderful artisanal bakery we visited in Litchfield Maine - Black Crow.
I have linked below a Wiscasset bakery (Treats) that sells their stuff, with pictures and a description, but a visit to the bakery itself, and the drive there through deep country is classic.
Its not far off the Maine Turnpike/95(?) south of Augusta (its west from the Richmond exit). You have to go early in the morning for choice. The bread is just there, next to their rustic oven - you take it and leave the specified amount of money. When we went, we did not see another human being The breads are full of delicious grain flavor, gutsy rather than subtle.
Black Crow Bakery. Litchfield,
If you dont make it to the bakery, you will probably see their bread elsewhere midcoast and Portland, in addition to Wiscasset.
