A great in-land Clam Shack - RED WING/WALPOLE!

PegO from Beantown | Oct 14, 2004 11:21 AM

After reviewing the many postings for great fried clam places around New England and Boston, I really think Chowhounds should have another board specifically for clam feedback. SOOOO many places, SOOO many can we chose?

Anyway, while I have your ear, I wanted to post my praise for the RED WING located on Route 1 in Walpole. I have been frequenting this spot since I was a toddler with my parents. Folks come from miles around to enjoy the mound of fried clams or oysters or whatever fried seafood you prefer. You can count on lines out the door on Friday or Saturday nights. For members of your dining group that don't enjoy seafood, I've been told their pizza is very popular as well. I must also say that their wait staff is always pleasant and service it typically quick so they can move 'em in and move 'em out as they're so busy with patrons.

I live in Walpole but spend my summers on Cape Cod and have frequented a NUMBER of clam shacks down there. Although many are good, I always compare them to the RED WING and there's nothing like 'em. I always say to my dining companions, that the only thing wrong with the RED WING is that it's not water front property!!! Then it would be the best - hands down!

For sports fans, you may have driven by (or dropped in to) the RED WING on your way to Foxboro Stadium. You can't miss it - located on Route 1 - red shingles with a packed parking lot. VERY casual attire..rustic seating. Don't wear your Sunday best! ;-)

Enjoy -
