Moving to the Larchmont area about three months ago, I found myself lacking for decent Italian food at a great price. Yes, I know there are many on Larchmont itself, but I found all of them over-priced, lacking in ambience or unwelcoming.
Then I found La Buca. Perched on the southwest corner Melrose and Wilton, La Buca is a family-owned italian restaurant. The restaurant owner and his wife are just a part of what makes La Buca an extraordinary find.
To start with the bread and the crust of the pizza is homemade and is, in a few words, "to die for." The pizza is made the Northern Italian way... thin, crispy and tasty. I highly recommend anything with their proscuitto.
Pasta is terrific - notable - the homemade gnocchi.
The specials is what I find to make La Buca, "special". I happened to go this past weekend and had the Buffalata. It's a special, very soft buffalo mozzarella. Very creamy, very tasty and served with salad greens, drizzled olive oil on a plate covered in proscuitto.
Chicken and beef dishes are always great, and their soup specials tasty.
Though wine is not served at La Buca, you can bring your own, and unlike the corkage fees of the Westside, be pleasantly surprised when your check comes with no charge for the corkage.
So... for a change, if don't want to deal with the oftentimes overpriced Larchmont area... step on over to La Buca. Great food, great ambience, great prices.
