The West Village has Cones. The Lower East Side has Il Laboratorio. The Upper E. Side has great shops like Payard's that sell very good ice cream.
Over at the Upper West Side, there is.... Emack & Bolio's, and Haagen Dazs. That's it.
No gelato, nothing special, nothing that aspires to greatness. I guess I should be thankful for the two we have, or maybe there is another ice-cream/gelato place that I don't know about?
But mostly, why is this neighborhood so lacking in great ice cream shops and great pastry shops? I don't understand it.
