Yesterday my fiance and I were playing tourist and hanging out at the Newseum. We decided to hit up happy hour at Osteria Elisir (once we found out the Source is closed on Mondays during the summer!). What a great find! I haven't been here since the redesign of the menu/restaurant concept. We grabbed a table outside and enjoyed a couple glasses of wine and some of the delicious dishes. We started with the ensalata russe. We love this dish at Jaleo. This was an excellent version as well---very different. Served with spiced shrimp on top and cucumbers around the edge. Nice, refreshing and paired well with my white wine.
We next had the eggplant parmesan----one of our favorite dishes when it is light and baked. This version did not disappoint. Great flavoring in the sauce and a perfect cheese crust on the top.
Our final dish was the pasta pasta bolognese (served in an adorable Chinese takeout box). This dish was the real winner of the meal! Absolute perfection---it would even be good cold the next day. Not overly dressed with sauce but nice meaty flavor and perfectly cooked pasta.
We received excellent service from Chris the bartender. We are huge fans of this happy hour and hope to return soon.
