Quick report on the french toast at Taste - excellent. (Taste is Eli's restaurant reincarnated at the 80th and Third location) It's challah french toast that seemed more like brioche than challah - it was that rich. They must soak it for quite some time in the egg mixture b/c inside it's like a custard. There's a sprinkling of sugar baked on top - it almost doesn't need syrup.(but I put plenty on b/c in my book the sweeter the better...) A large portion, everyone at the table was digging in and oohing and ahhing over it.
Taste is a good spot for brunch in that neighborhood -on the pricier side as brunch goes, but a nice airy setting, warm service and solid food all around.
