Some friends and I were talking recently about how restaurants with great views often have disappointing food. It's as if they rely on the view to compensate for mediocre chow. (My friends and I are in New York, where we think this maxim applies, except for disagreement over the River Cafe, in Brooklyn). Have you found this to be the case? Are there any restaurants, anywhere in the world, that you have dined in that have a fantastic view and fabulous cuisine?
My contribution is Taychreggan on Loch Awe in western Scotland. This is a drover's inn turned luxury hotel, and we ate an excellent meal while watching the sun set over the beautiful loch through the floor-to-ceiling windows in the dining room.
