Great Food in Fairfield County strip mall!!

The Goodwives Shopping Plaza in Darien is host two of the region's best food experiences.

Coromandel - A terrific find in the region's landscape of over-priced, mediocre restaurants. You can dine there for <$50 a couple, and get excellent, authentic, regional Indian food. Okay, the restaurant is located in a shopping plaza and the entrance is VERY awkward, but the minimalist interior decor avoids many of the cheesy cliches adopted by most Indian restaurants. Once you are seated, the service is sophisticated and professional. It may say a lot about the sad state of suburban dining, but the fact that Coromandel does everything right, at a reasonable price (for Fairfield County), makes this the best dining bargain around (and maybe the best restaurant period). [Takeout is a steal, but the foot traffic during rush hour can be a little disruptive for eat-in patrons.]

Darien Cheese - Located directly adjacent to Coromandel, Darien Cheese is one of the country's best cheese shops. The selection is not as broad as you find at Murray's or Fairway, but everything Ken (the owner) puts out is A grade. Convince the staff that you "get it", and you'll open the door to perfectly ripened Selle sur Cher, Taleggio, and unpasteurised Brie. Ken's a true affineur ...
