In search of someplace open late in winter in Ensenada, we happened upon a little place called Las Memelas, just a few blocks from the main touristy area. It was cozy and tiled inside with live entertainment, open to the street, with several families (all locals) still finishing up their dinners around 10 pm. We managed to decipher the menu which was not just the basic tacos and enchiladas at all, although some of that stuff seemed to be available too. Basically the deal was to pick a sope, a quesadilla, or a corn tortilla spread with beans, and then to pick a filling to go in it. There were 18 fillings to choose from, everything from chorizo and potatoes to amazing crispy carne asada to pumpkin flowers and lechuga (spinach?). We ordered six different fillings and some mineral water. The bill was around $7.00, and we were happily stuffed. Everything was superfresh and handmade with a great selection of salsas and it looked like there were some nice desserts also. Definitely check this place out after you've filled up on fish tacos!
