Spent 4 days in Bar Harbor (April 29 - May3)and found a couple wonderful places to eat even though a lot of restaurants were not open for the season yet. Not to be missed: 2 Cats on Cottage St. - the chef really knows what good food is. Breakfast served till 1p.m. On-premises-baked muffins and biscuits superb. They serve dinner in season. Fenelli's Pizzeria a few doors down on Cottage St. also has an outstanding chef. We had pizza, meatball sandwich served on his own chewy-crusty Italian hearth-baked bread (took a loaf home), ziti baked with sausage and a giant soup plate of the best cream of mushroom soup crammed with mushrooms and fragrant with just a hint of wine (unbelievably priced at only $3.50!). It was all way above average and truly delicious. Not much ambience, but it's the food that counts, right? On the other side of MDI at Little Notch Cafe in Southwest Harbor I had the best salad I've ever eaten out - a wonderful mix of the tiniest leaves of lettuces, etc., very fresh with a light oil and vinegar dressing, garnished with tender roast chicken breast slices at my request. $5.95 - what a deal!
